Overview

The Micron 5300 Pro succeeded the 5200 Pro in 2019, upgrading to 96-layer 3D TLC NAND (from 64-layer) and moving to the Marvell 88SS1088 controller. The controller change brought improved power efficiency: maximum active power dropped to 3.9W at 3840GB and 7680GB, compared to 6W for the 5200 series. The 5300 Pro was available in 2.5-inch and M.2 2280 form factors across all six capacities from 240GB to 7680GB.

Sequential speeds were already at the SATA 6 Gbit/s ceiling with the 5200 Pro, so the 5300 Pro is rated at the same 540 MB/s read (all capacities). Sequential write scales from 310 MB/s at 240GB to 520 MB/s from 960GB upward. Random write IOPS decline as capacity increases, from 40,000 at 240GB down to 11,000 at 7680GB – a pattern driven by the endurance-versus-parallelism trade-off at high capacity points under the Pro's 1 DWPD workload rating.

The 7680GB capacity puts the 5300 Pro among the highest-density enterprise SATA options available. At that point, the drive's 9,110TB TBW endurance rating corresponds to less than 0.3 DWPD over five years under Micron's 100% random 4K write test methodology. Actual workload endurance in mixed or sequential patterns will be higher. All Micron 5300 Pro capacities were available in 2.5-inch and M.2 2280 form factors, while the Max models were 2.5-inch only.
