Overview

Micron's 5200 Pro is a successor to the 5100 Pro. The 5200 Pro was launched in 2018 and came with an upgrade from 32-layer to 64-layer 3D TLC NAND while staying with the Marvell 88SS1074 controller. The transition to higher-density NAND enabled improved quality-of-service latency — the 5200 datasheet specifies 200µs read and 300µs write at the 99.9th percentile for capacities below 2TB, tighter than the 5100's 500µs — and random read IOPS increased from 93,000 to 95,000.

Unlike the 5100 Pro, which started at 240GB, the 5200 Pro was only offered at 960GB, 1920GB, and 3840GB. There are lower capacity points in the series, but these are covered by the ECO tier in the 5200 lineup. All three Pro capacities offer identical sequential speeds: 540 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write, and 95,000 random read IOPS. Random write IOPS are 32,000 for the 960GB and 1920GB models, dropping to 24,500 at 3840GB.

The 5200 series is 2.5-inch only. Micron did not offer an M.2 variant for the 5200 generation. Power consumption at idle is 1.5W, with a maximum of 6W under load (5V supply). The drive supports TCG Enterprise SED encryption and power-loss data protection, which is consistent with the broader 5x00 product lines.
