Link_A_Media LM 87800
The Link_A_Media LM87800 is a SATA III (6 Gb/s) SSD controller with 8 NAND channels and up to 4 chip-enables per channel. Its architecture uses dedicated ARM microcontrollers on both the host side and the NAND side, so both sides run in parallel without a shared CPU bottleneck. The controller supports ONFi 2.3 and Toggle Mode 1 flash at 2y-nm and 1x-nm geometries (SLC, MLC, eMLC) from all major NAND vendors, with a maximum capacity of 1 TB. Rated performance is 550 MB/s sequential read and write, and 90,000 IOPS for both random read and write at 4 KB.
Link_A_Media's proprietary eBoost technology targets NAND endurance enhancement, paired with BCH ECC with adaptive signal estimation for on-the-fly error correction, and RAID/Chipkill protection. The company positioned the LM87800 as a high-performance SATA controller at the time of its announcement, winning industry recognition before being acquired by SK Hynix in 2012.
