Realtek RTS5762
The Realtek RTS5762 is an 8-channel PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 SSD controller and Realtek's high-end entry into the consumer NVMe market. First demonstrated at Computex 2018. It uses DRAM, Realtek's own custom CPU cores (not ARM), and an LDPC ECC engine rated at up to 150 bits per 1 KB. AES-256 encryption is included. Rated performance is 3,500 MB/s sequential read and 3,000 MB/s sequential write, competitive with Samsung's 970 PRO at launch. The demonstration unit used Toshiba BICS3 64-layer 3D TLC NAND.
Realtek is primarily known for audio, networking, and USB bridge chips. Its earlier RTS5760 controller targeted entry-level PCIe drives but struggled to exceed 1,000 MB/s, limiting its appeal. The RTS5762 and the companion 4-channel DRAM-less RTS5763DL, targeting mainstream/budget NVMe, marked a deliberate move upmarket. Despite competitive specifications, Realtek faced a crowded field dominated by Silicon Motion and Phison.
