Editor Notes
Overview
The Crucial P5 Plus was released in 2021 and upgraded the P5's PCIe 3.0 to PCIe 4.0. It used a Phison E18 controller and Micron's 176-layer TLC NAND with DRAM cache. Sequential read tops out at 6,600 MB/s – roughly double the P5's ceiling.
The drive covers 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. At launch it competed against SSDs like the Samsung 980 PRO and WD Black SN850 at a somewhat lower price. TBW scales from 300 to 1,200 across the capacity range, in line with other drives using the Phison E18 platform on Micron TLC.
It was succeeded by the T500 in 2023, which reached over 7,000 MB/s sequential with a refined version of the same controller platform.

“For the price, the P5 Plus is a solid value overall. It may not be the best of the best, but priced right it has a lot to offer those looking to purchase a PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD without spending top dollar.”
