Overview
The Crucial P5 launched in April 2020 alongside the budget-tier P2, positioned above it in Crucial's NVMe lineup. Unlike the P2, the P5 uses Micron's own proprietary NVMe controller with Micron 96-layer TLC NAND and includes a dedicated DRAM cache.
Sequential read is 3,400 MB/s for all capacities. The 250GB model has a lower sequential write ceiling (1,400 MB/s) compared to the larger SKUs (3,000 MB/s) due to fewer NAND dies and reduced write parallelism. The 1TB and 2TB models reach 600 and 1,200 TBW endurance ratings, respectively, both of which are normal endurance ratings at these capacities.
The P5 was succeeded by the P5 Plus in 2021, which added PCIe 4.0 support and shifted to a Phison E18 controller as well as updated NAND.

“I consider the Crucial P5 1TB a solid drive. My only major objection is only the price in context with its peers. Buyers who still need a good PCIe 3.0 SSD should be satisfied with this drive, but as it currently stands, I recommend buying it when it is on discount.”
