Overview
Kingston's Fury Renegade was released in 2022 and was the manufacturer's gaming-focused PCIe 4.0 drive in the time frame. It uses a Phison E18 controller paired with Kioxia BiCS5 162-layer 3D TLC NAND and comes with an LPDDR4 cache. Sequential read tops at 7,300 MB/s across all capacities, whereas write reaches 7,000 MB/s on the 2TB and 4TB models.
Capacities range from 500GB to 4TB. The Fury Renegade offers very strong TBW endurance for its class at up to 4,000 TBW on the 4TB model. Heatsink variants are offered in addition to standard M.2 cards to accommodate for PlayStation 5 storage upgrade requirements (and PC users without integrated motherboard heatsinks). It succeeds the Kingston KC3000, retaining the same Phison E18 controller but switching to Kioxia BiCS5 NAND. The drive competes in the same high-end tier as the Seagate FireCuda 530 and Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus.
Reviews
-
“The 2TB Fury Renegade is a competent, high-end PCIe 4.0 SSD. The inclusion of a heatsink adds a bit of value to an otherwise proven formula.”

“... Kingston's flagship Gen4 drive is very fast. It often only trails the Samsung 990 PRO by a hair, which is impressive considering that its Phison E18 controller and NAND combo have been around since early 2020.”
