Overview
The WD Blue SN570, released in late 2021, is the successor to the WD Blue SN550. It uses WD's in-house Polaris MP16+ controller—a four-channel DRAM-less design that relies on Host Memory Buffer (HMB) in place of dedicated DRAM—paired with BiCS5 112-layer 3D TLC NAND, an upgrade from the SN550's BiCS4 96-layer NAND. Sequential read peaks at 3,500 MB/s on 500GB and above; the 250GB model is rated at 3,300 MB/s read and 1,200 MB/s write.
Western Digital stated publicly that the SN570 would retain TLC NAND throughout its production life, following criticism of the SN550's mid-cycle switch to QLC. Available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB, all with a 5-year warranty. The SN570 was succeeded by the PCIe 4.0 WD Blue SN580 in 2023.
Reviews
-
“WD's Blue SN570 is a decent NVMe SSD that delivers fast, snappy performance during small operations and game loading, but it fell behind many of its competitors during sustained copy and write workloads.”
-
“Priced at only $90 for the tested 1 TB version, the WD Blue SN570 is priced extremely competitively. It roughly matches other value NVMe drives, like the HP EX900 Pro ($90), ADATA SX6000 Pro ($90) and Crucial P2 ($85).”
-
“WD's SN570 Blue shows a marked increase in performance over the previous Blue SN550 thanks to the NAND technology it uses and controller updates, while WD has given it every chance with a pretty competitive price tag.”
