SSD Controller
Phison E12
Phison PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 28nm (TSMC) 5 drives in database
The Phison E12 (PS5012-E12) is an 8-channel PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe controller from 2018, manufactured on TSMC's 28nm process. It was one of the most common NVMe controllers of its generation, offering competitive PCIe 3.0 performance at mid-range price points for brands without in-house controllers.
It supports DRAM cache and hardware AES-256 encryption. Sequential reads reach up to 3,500 MB/s, nearly saturating its four lanes of PCIe 3.0. An updated E12S revision arrived in 2021 with improved power efficiency and better support for newer 3D NAND generations.
As with other Phison controllers, the E12 could be found in numerous drives from multiple brands. Examples include Sabrent Rocket, Patriot Viper VPN100, and MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro.
