SSD Controller
Samsung MJX
Samsung SATA III (6 Gb/s) 28nm (Samsung) 3 drives in database
The MJX is the in-house SATA controller from Samsung and was used in the 860 EVO and 860 Pro from 2018. It succeeded the Samsung MHX from the 850 series and was Samsung's final generation of dedicated SATA SSD controllers before the company shifted consumer focus to NVMe.
MJX is a 4-channel design paired with Samsung's 64-layer V-NAND. The 860 EVO used TLC with an SLC write cache, while the 860 Pro uses MLC for higher endurance. Sequential reads reach 550 MB/s, i.e. effectively the SATA III bandwidth ceiling. The 860 series remained Samsung's main SATA option for several years after launch.
