Samsung S3C29MAX01
The Samsung S3C29MAX01 (full designation S3C29MAX01-Y340, also referenced as the S3C2400 family) is Samsung's in-house ARM-based SSD controller used in the Samsung 470 Series. It is a dual-core design clocked at 220 MHz, manufactured at Samsung's own fabs. The controller drives 8 NAND flash channels with 8 chip-enables and requires external DDR2-667 DRAM; the 470 Series pairs it with two 128 MB Samsung DDR2 modules for a 256 MB buffer.
The S3C29MAX01 predates Samsung's later MEX-generation controllers and operates over a SATA II (3 Gb/s) interface, delivering up to 250 MB/s sequential read and 220 MB/s sequential write on the 256 GB model. Like later Samsung controllers it is paired exclusively with Samsung's own NAND, consistent with Samsung's vertical integration approach that continued through the 830 Series and beyond.
