The Silicon Motion SM2246EN is a 4-channel DRAM-equipped SATA III controller targeting the mainstream consumer SSD segment, used in the Crucial BX100 among others. It supports MLC and TLC NAND from all major suppliers and includes Silicon Motion's NANDXtend™ ECC technology for improved endurance and data retention. A dedicated DDR3 DRAM cache is required on-board, keeping the full flash translation layer in memory for consistent performance. The SM2246EN preceded the SM2259 family in Silicon Motion's SATA lineup and is the earlier generation of their merchant ASIC approach.
