Silicon Motion SM2259H

Silicon Motion SATA III (6 Gb/s) 40nm (TSMC) 1 drive in database

The Silicon Motion SM2259H is a DRAM-equipped SATA 6Gb/s controller in the SM2259 family. It uses a single-core Synopsys ARC processor running at 437 MHz, manufactured on TSMC's 40nm process. The flash interface runs 4 channels at 800 MT/s with 8 chip-enables per channel, supporting ONFI 4.0 and Toggle 2.0 NAND. A dedicated DRAM cache (DDR3/DDR3L/DDR4/LPDDR3) is required on-board, unlike the DRAM-less SM2259XT2.

Error correction uses Silicon Motion's NANDXtend® technology: 1KB-codeword LDPC with hard and soft decoding, embedded programmable RAID, and SRAM ECC, with end-to-end data path protection. The controller supports Direct-to-TLC and dynamic SLC caching for sustained write performance with TLC and QLC NAND. Peak rated throughput is 560 MB/s sequential read and 520 MB/s write. Security features include AES full-drive encryption, TCG Opal, and hardware SHA-256.
