Silicon Motion SM2263
The Silicon Motion SM2263 is a 4-channel PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.3 controller available in two configurations: the SM2263EN (DRAM-equipped, supporting DDR3/DDR3L/LPDDR3/DDR4) and the SM2263XT (DRAM-less, with Host Memory Buffer support). Both share the same flash interface: 4 channels with 4 chip-enables per channel, ONFI 4.0/Toggle 3.0 compatibility, and NV-DDR3 flash bus up to 800 MT/s. Peak rated throughput is 2,400 MB/s sequential read and 1,700 MB/s sequential write.
Error correction uses Silicon Motion's proprietary NANDXtend™ technology, combining 2KB-codeword LDPC with an embedded programmable RAID engine and SRAM ECC, alongside end-to-end data path protection. The XT variant's random read performance varies noticeably depending on HMB availability: 280K IOPS with HMB enabled versus 140K IOPS without. Security features include real-time AES full-drive encryption, TCG Opal, hardware SHA-256, and a TRNG. Idle power reaches as low as 2mW in L1.2 sleep.
